MacDailyNews has a link to one of the most comprehensive guide to installing Leopard. MacFixIt's guide enumerates the steps you should before, during and after the upgrade process. First on the list is backup. I used not to think about backing up before but I cannot stress it enough on how important backing up is. It's a long guide but really worth the read. Equally as valuable is the discussion from members that comes right after the guide.
MacFixIt also warns Leopard users not to run DiskWarrior or any other third-party disk utility program until these programs have been updated by the developers.
