There's a new coffee shop to get your caffeine fix from.
Gold Cup Coffee Shop is what you may consider as secluded, being located at the end of a narrow street. I wouldn't have known that it existed if it weren't for the big billboard they put up along street.
I found the place in an alcove, beside a hairdresser's salon. Not exactly sure whether they were already open for business or not, I cautiously poked my head inside.
A lone waitstaff welcomed me in after I interrupted him from what he was doing. I asked the first thing a coffee-drinking, nethead always asks: Is there Wi-Fi?
Nope.
Dang.
I was about to do a slow retreat back outside but I stopped. I did another look around the place. The interior looked cozy, with comfortable-looking armchairs and couches. The lighting threw a warm glow that made it more inviting.
They still have balloons!
The bar inspired enough confidence that I decided to give their coffee a try.
The waitstaff turned out to be the barrista as well. When I commented on this, he said that for now, he was the only personnel available. I guess that won't be much of a problem for the first few days of operation but I reckon they have to add more people later on.
I ordered my usual fare: a cup of cafe americano (reasonably priced at ₱55). While waiting I noticed that the indoor temperature wasn't as cold as hope it would be. I wouldn't call it uncomfortable, however.
I grabbed my cup of americano and sat down on a couch. I let my coffee cool down a bit before I took a sip. It had a woody aroma and a mild lychee-like flavor. It had a bit of slight aftertaste but I liked it. It was good cup of coffee.
When I asked the barrista where they sourced their coffee beans from, he said they got it from abroad and was an Italian blend. Not sure what that exactly means.
They're using a La Spaziale espresso machine and they also have a machine used to prepare low-fat beverages or shakes.
I must admit that when I first saw the name, Gold Cup Coffee Shop, I thought it was kind of cheesy. But I like the interior and their americano is good. I'd recommend that you give it a try.
They opened for business just yesterday, and there might be some hiccups. No Wi-Fi yet. They're still waiting for Globe. They did tell me that they expect to have wireless by next week.
Oh. I also found out that I was their first customer. First!
I'm going to go back there soon to try out other coffees, and their pastry and food.
Gold Cup Coffee Shop is a nice addition to our selection of coffee shops here in Davao especially for those who feel they need a bit of alone time.
Gold Cup Coffee Shop is located along E. Jacinto Extension. Just look for the Minute Burger stand.
