The AppleInsider reports that the second generation 4GB iPod mini is outselling the other new iPod players. The 4GB mini is outselling the 6GB version by a ratio of 3 to 1. It would seem that Steve Jobs was right in saying 1000 songs was the sweet spot for comsumers.
The iPod mini has become a middle choice between the light and very portable iPod shuffle and the high-capacity, audiophile's delight iPods and iPod photos. But the other hard-drive based digital music players from Apple aren't selling as briskly as the iPod mini has been. The $449 60GB iPod photo has been described as "no hot ticket." On the other hand, the shuffle has grabbed 58 per cent of the market share on last March.
Other top selling Apple products include the Mac mini, which according to some stores, accounts for 1 out of 4 to 1 out of 3 Macs being sold. The Powerbook G4 portables are also enjoying brisk sales after a bumpy start with some hardware problems in the new line of Powerbooks.
