MacNN reports that from 43 per cent last February, the iPod shuffle's market share jumped to 58 per cent last March. Other figures include: 90 per cent of hard drive digital music player and iTunes Music Store's share was at more than 70 per cent last month.

In Japan, the iPod mini has more than 50 per cent of the market share. The iPod mini with its multi-hued selection is being bought not only by teens and young adults in their 20's but as well as by those between 30 to 50 years old. However, aside from the battle for player dominance, Apple and Sony are also grappling for the bigger market share of online music store business. Apple is at a disadvantage since the Japanese cannot buy song from their iTunes Music Store.
