Cignal brings direct-to-home, high-definition television for the first time in Davao.

High-definition video or HD video refers to any video system that displays resolutions of 1280x720 pixels also known as 720p or 1920x1080 pixels also known as 1080i or 1080p. Cignal offers channels either in 720p or 1080i resolution.

There are two Cignal subscription bundles: Cignal HD and Cignal Digital TV.

Cignal HD Bundle offers eight high-definition channels such as HBO, Star Movies, National Geographic Channel, History Channel, Disney Channel, Sony Entertainment Television, ESPN, and Star Sports. Only HBO, Star Movies, National Geographic Channel, and History Channel are broadcasting in true high-definition. The rest of the channels are digitally-enhanced. Cignal is offering this bundle's one-time fee at the promo rate of ₱6,500 instead of the regular ₱10,500. Monthly subscription fee is ₱990.

Cignal Digital TV Bundle offers 21 DVD-like quality channels which includes ABS-CBN, GMA, Cartoon Network, CNN,and AXN. This bundle has a promo rate one-time fee of ₱1,500 and a monthly subscription fee of ₱390. Regular one-time fee is at ₱4,700.

Both Cignal HD Bundle and Cignal Digital TV Bundle comes with the Cignal HD Satellite Kit which includes a satellite dish, set top box, remote control, and Cignal card.

Cignal also has the Cignal Combo Bundle which combines both Cignal HD and Cignal Digital TV channels into one package. Cignal Combo Bundle has a one-time fee of ₱6,500 plus a monthly subscription fee of ₱1,290.

All bundles require a ₱1,000 installation fee. However, the fee may be increased depending on the location of the subscriber and materials available.

It goes without saying, you need to have a high-definition television set to fully appreciate this service. HD television sets have been available in Davao for several years but the only recourse for owners of these devices was to watch movies on Blu-ray or from other high-definition media. With Cignal, Davao consumers interested in watching HD movies or shows now have a few more options available.

It would be interesting to see how fast Davao will warm up to HD TV programming.
